Born 31 March 1939, Citizen of Yokohama-city, Kanagawa prefecture of Japan. He graduated from National University of Electrical Communications in 1961 and joined the shipping company Mitsui-O.S.K Line. He worked as an officer at headquarters after onboard service as Radio-electronic Officer on the company’s ships. He moved to manufacturer Tokimec Inc. (previous name was Tokyo Keiki Co., Ltd) in 1970 and worked as the engineer of System design and several managers of engineering, product planning, business planning and marketing. During these positions, he experienced the development of the Ship Automation Systems and Integrated Bridge Systems including Electronic Chart systems. He retired this company in 2000. He had granted a qualified as Marine Counsellor (Lawyer for Marine Accident Inquiry) by Japanese government and he is working his own consultant office of Katayama Marine Technology Consulting (KMTC) today.
