Born: 12/28/60 in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
Mike graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering in 1983 and joined the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps as an Ensign. During his career in the NOAA Corps, he completed two sea tours as an officer aboard the NOAA survey ship Rainier, comprising four years of hydrographic surveying in Alaska. During the second of these tours, Mike served as the Field Operations Officer and directed surveying operations aboard Rainier and her four survey launches. Ashore, Mike worked in various parts of NOAA's hydrographic surveying program. This experience included working as a system engineer on the development of a hydrographic surveying and processing system for NOAA. In 1994 Mike became the manager of NOAA's electronic charting effort. He left the NOAA Corps with the rank of Lieutenant Commander and now serves as a civilian. In 1999, Mike completed a Master of Science in Management degree from the University of Maryland. Mike brings his engineering and management training, bridge officer experience and hydrographer's knowledge to his current position as ENC Product Manager for NOAA. He lives in Maryland with his wife and two sons.
